Social Thought and Political Economy (STPEC)

UMass Amherst

The Social Thought and Political Economy Program (STPEC) is an interdisciplinary undergraduate major in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at UMass Amherst. The STPEC Program encourages students to engage in a critical examination of society and to develop their own capacities for critical reading, writing, and thinking. STPEC strives to foster a closely knit student community within a large university setting. It offers an evolving curriculum that favors small classes and encourages experiential learning through internships and student involvement in our program's governance. The major is designed to give students the flexibility to pursue their own interests in a number of departments within the University of Massachusetts and the surrounding area colleges.
