As a broadly based liberal arts degree, the major emphasizes the development of critical thinking and communication skills as well as the acquisition of historical perspective. The curriculum will help them understand why the world is the way it is, and how they might decide to take action in the world. Students will learn how to identify chronological and geographical patterns and problems of the past, create coherent and persuasive arguments in written and oral forms, and conduct research and interpret historical data.
