Dr. Billings-Ladson, author and affiliate faculty member at the University of Wisconsin, will discuss "Educating for Diversity in the Midst of Pandemics."
UMass Dartmouth proudly welcomes a virtual talk by Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings titled “Educating for Diversity in the Midst of Pandemics." The online event takes place Wednesday, October 14 from 3:00-5:00 p.m.
Dr. Ladson-Billings investigates critical race theory applications to education. Her research examines the pedagogical practices of teachers who are successful with African American students. She is the author of two critically acclaimed books – The Dreamkeepers: Successful Teachers of African American Children and Crossing Over to Canaan: The Journey of New Teachers in Diverse Classrooms – as well as numerous journal articles and book chapters.
She is a faculty affiliate as well as the former Kellner Family Distinguished Professor of Urban Education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the Department of Educational Policy Studies at the University of Wisconsin, Madison where she also served as assistant vice chancellor of academic affairs. In 2018, she was elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. She has been a member of the National Academy of Education since 2005 and was the 2005-2006 president of the American Educational Research Association.
Dr. Ladson-Billings’ lecture will be followed by a Q & A session. This event is open to members of the UMass Dartmouth community. RSVP is required.
