Statement by UMass President Marty Meehan, UMass Amherst Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy, UMass Boston Chancellor Marcelo Suárez-Orozco, UMass Dartmouth Chancellor Mark Fuller, UMass Lowell Chancellor Jacquie Moloney, and UMass Medical School Chancellor Michael Collins on passage of the American Rescue Plan Act
"On behalf of the 75,000 students, 18,000 faculty and staff, half million-plus alumni of the University of Massachusetts, we extend our gratitude to the Massachusetts Congressional delegation for its support of the American Rescue Plan Act. The funding it provides to our campuses and students will be critical in our efforts to sustain our mission of teaching, research and service, which will help drive the post-pandemic economic recovery of the Commonwealth. This timely investment will be especially important to our students by providing much-needed aid that will allow them to continue pursuing their college degrees without interruption. We look forward to President Biden signing this measure into law and to joining his administration and Congress in the important work of strengthening public higher education in America, which has been central to the success of our democracy and economy for more than a century and a half."
