The Community Research and Partnership Initiative (CoRPI) looks to impact community wellbeing
UMass Dartmouth announces its newest research group, the Community Research and Partnership Initiative (CoRPI). CoRPI will work with community partners and stakeholders to build long-term collaborations to benefit their social, economic, educational, ecological and physical well-being.
CoRPI will leverage the interdisciplinary skills and resources of University faculty members to address issues with evidence-based decision-making, transformative policies, and sustainable practices alongside community perspectives. By promoting and practicing internal and external collaboration, the group’s aim is to raise the level of community-engaged research and its contribution the University’s mission.
As part of this mission, CoRPI has announced its first-ever class of CoRPI Fellows. Starting in spring 2020, Assistant Professor Marni Kellogg (Nursing & Health Sciences) and Assistant Professor Eric Larson (Crime & Justice Studies) will be working with CoRPI and the Office of Research and Development on furthering their grant-funded community-focused research initiatives.
Dr. Kellogg will examine how exposure to traumatic situations in the workplace negatively affect nurses, potentially leading to harmful emotional and health outcomes for the nurses themselves as well as distracted work practice. Kellogg will partner with Southcoast Health, a community-based healthcare system in Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Dr. Larson will expand on his work with formerly incarcerated Rhode Islanders through worker cooperatives as a way to establish social and economic security. Larson’s current project grows out of research conducted with a team of formerly incarcerated people and the immigrant worker center Fuerza Laboral (Power of Workers) in 2018-19.
There will be a meet-and-greet luncheon for the new Fellows on Wednesday, December 4 at 12:00 p.m. in room 115 of the Charlton College of Business on the main UMass Dartmouth campus located at 285 Old Westport Road, Dartmouth.
