AMHERST - Nov. 4, 2011:The University of Massachusetts Amherst Chancellor Search Committee held its third meeting today, saying that the two days of campus forums winding up today will help to guide its search for a new Chancellor.
"Our campus forums have allowed us to gain valuable insights and will help to guide the committee as it seeks to identify outstanding candidates for this very important position," said Philip W. Johnston, a UMass Trustee and chairman of the 18-member chancellor search committee.
"This committee is listening very carefully and wants to hear as many voices as possible as it prepares to develop a pool of candidates and then make judgments about who would be best suited to lead the University's flagship campus," Johnston said. "We are committed to making this an open and inclusive process."
Over the past two days, members of the Search Committee have hosted on-campus meetings with various campus constituency groups, including students, faculty, staff, administrators, campus unions, legislators and community and business leaders.
The University is seeking a successor to Chancellor Robert C. Holub, who has announced that he will step down at the end of the 2011-2012 academic year. The Search Committee's role is to identify finalist candidates for the position. President Robert L. Caret would then make a recommendation to the UMass Board of Trustees, which has the final say in the selection process.
