Professor Herrington, Zuckerberg Chair, Hosts Writing Assessment Conference

Oct. 30, 2008: UMass Amherst Professor Anne Herrington, the 2007 recipient of the Roy J. Zuckerberg Endowed Leadership Chair, is hosting a conference for educators from Massachusetts and across the country on "Re-Envisioning Writing Assessment: Relevance, Achievement, and Diversity" on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Southbridge Hotel and Conference Center. The conference will address such topics as equity in assessment, assessing visual and multi-modal texts, collaborative and self-assessment, response to mandated large-scale assessments and professional development.

The planning committee for the conference includes teachers from all segments of public education in Massachusetts and representatives from the University of Massachusetts President's Office and the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The event is funded by the Roy J. Zuckerberg Endowed Leadership Chair of the University of Massachusetts, which supports the University's mission of education, research and public service that "advance knowledge and improve the lives of the people of the Commonwealth, the nation, and the world."
