The Mount Ida Campus of UMass Amherst has taken steps to implement Chancellor Kumble R. Subbaswamy’s decision to suspend in-person instruction and transition to remote course delivery upon the conclusion of spring break and at least through April 3.
Jeff Cournoyer, managing director of the Mount Ida Campus, sent an email to the Mount Ida community, noting that implementation will occur “considering our relative size, density and ability to implement social distancing measures.” Steps to be taken will include the following:
- Veterinary Technology students in clinical labs, conducting internships or otherwise requiring housing are allowed to return to campus and/or remain in New Hall. All other classes, including general education courses, will be hosted online following Spring Break and at least through April 3. Faculty will reach out to students via email or Moodle about their respective courses. Veterinary Technology students with specific questions should contact Dr. Sarah Lefebvre, associate program director, at selefebvre@umass.edu.
- Unless otherwise notified by their program director or employer, Public Health, SBS, Arts Extension and other students conducting internships in Greater Boston this semester are allowed to remain in or return to New Hall and continue their internships. Students with specific questions should contact Jenny Reynolds, internship and program coordinator, at jhreynolds@umass.edu.
- Unless otherwise notified by faculty, students in graduate programs on the Mount Ida Campus will continue to receive on-site instruction and graduate students living in New Hall may return or remain.
- Innovation and Collaboration Space tenants and other campus partners are encouraged to follow the guidance of state and federal public health officials and implement social distancing measures, including canceling discretionary gatherings on campus.
