Esi A. Asare, MBA, will join UMass Medical School next week as the new director of admissions for the School of Medicine.
Asare is currently the director of multicultural admission at Le Moyne College, a private university in Syracuse with an enrollment of more than 3,100, where she has held a series of increasingly responsible positions over the past 11 years. Her previous experience also includes work in an innovative mentoring partnership program at a community agency and in undergraduate admissions. She holds an MBA and an MS in management systems from Clarkson University, and a BA in economics from Lawrence University.
“Ms. Asare’s work at Le Moyne is a strategic fit for the School of Medicine; our commitment to diversity and inclusion requires that we expand our reach and challenge ourselves to find additional approaches to recruitment and engagement,” said Terence R. Flotte, MD, the Celia and Isaac Haidak Professor, executive deputy chancellor, provost and dean of the School of Medicine.
“Ms. Asare will build on the solid foundation built by our SOM admissions team, which has been led with care and commitment by Karen Lawton,” said Mariann Manno, MD, associate dean, admissions and prematriculation programs, School of Medicine. “In her time as director, she has overseen the evolution and growth of the SOM admission process in a number of ways, including the introduction of the Multiple Mini Interview; the increased opportunity for non-Massachusetts residents to apply for admission; and the introduction of the PURCH program. We greatly appreciate her work and the work of her colleagues; their success is apparent in the quality and accomplishment of our students and graduates.”
